Description

The consequences of the massive environmental destruction affecting large areas of the globe could threaten the security of every country on earth. Following the Cold War, politicians and military planners are turning to a range of unprecedented problems such as struggles for resources, cross-border pollution, the poisoning of the atmosphere and the seas and the threat of huge numbers of environmental refugees. "Top Guns and Toxic Whales" describes what is meant by security and the new threats to it, showing how impotent the existing commitments and mechanisms are. They examine the chilling consequences of those in power doing nothing and then set out the possibilities available to government and industry for averting catastrophes. These include using military personnel and hardware in the service of economical preservation and establishing an international "Green Police Force" with military powers.
