内容説明

This guide is one of a series which sets out to give an introduction to architectural styles in many different parts of the world. Each volume focuses on a distinctive type of architecture within a country or a particular region, giving a detailed and illustrated survey of the buildings most likely to excite the traveller's curiosity. The introductory section of this book provides a historical context for the buildings of Turkey. Against this background, the development and characteristics of the architecture are discussed, with an account of the principal architects involved. Finally a gazetteer lists important examples of the style and a selection of minor buildings. The text is accompanied by photographs, prints and architectural drawings showing both overall views and details of sculpture and ornament. The author has also written "Strolling Through Istanbul", "The Complete Guide to Greece", "The Companion to Turkey" and "The Western Shores of Turkey".
