Description

This revised and expanded edition analyzes the relation of philosophy and politics, and illustrates this by a reinterpretation of Kant, Hegel and Marx. Within this context is developed a concept of a system which points beyond philosophy for its completion and, on the basis of a retrospective reading of Kant's theory of reflective judgement, the problems and concepts that are needed by such a mediation are defined. Practical, historically specific problems can then be examined and interpreted in the light of the above and the new introduction, and textual revisions, make clear the relation of this theoretical volume to the practical study of the birth of modern democratic policies in Prussia, the USA and France. The author writes frequently in political journals in France and the USA. Among his previous publications are "The Marxian Legacy", "Defining the Political", "The Politics of Critique", "From Marx to Kant" (1st ed) and "The Development of the Marxian Dialectic".
