内容説明

Since the 10th International Congress on Photobiology held in Jerusalem in 1988, one of the most profoundly discussed topics has been "ozone depletion" and its effects on the increase in solar ultraviolet light causing biological damage in living organisms, which is now a global environment issue. The 11th International Conference of Photobiology was held in Kyoto, Japan, from September 7 to 12, and was organized by the Science Council of Japan and the Photobiology Association of Japan. More than 700 participants from 37 countries gathered together with approximately 600 scientific presentations. This text is a collection of the lectures and reports by chairpersons of the congress symposia. Basic research in photobiology was represented by the two Finsen Award lectures by Drs W. Stoeckenius and F. Urbach, and the Edna Roe lecture by S. Voelker. The Finsen memorial lecture was given by K. Satoh, with two other plenary lectures, given by Drs K. Schaffner and K. Tanaka, also emphasizing the recent progress in photobiology from basic aspects at the molecular level.
