Description and Table of Contents
Description
This collection of papers was presented at a conference on short fatigue cracks, which discusses such topics as initiation and early crack propagation, environmental effects of corrosion fatigue, mean stress effects, crack growth at notches, microscopy methods and modelling of short crack behaviour. This book highlights the importance of loading sequence effects and the consequence of introducing overloads at critical stages in the fatigue damage process. It presents studies which set the scene for future developments, and which indicate the routes to be followed. It is designed for materials scientists and mechanical engineers.
