Description and Table of Contents

Description

Edgar Wind was the first Professor of the History of Art, University of Oxford (1955-67). His familiarity with art and its history was allied to a knowledge of the ancient classics, of literature in several languages, and of philosophy and aesthetics. This volume of his selected papers includes a biographical memoir by Sir Hugh Lloyd-Jones, former Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Oxford, which explores the varied life and intellectual development of one of the most original art historians of the 20th century. Published in 1983, this volume includes a revised and expanded bibliography.
