内容説明

"The Medieval World" series provides the student, scholar and general reader with short studies of key aspects and personalities of the medieval world. This book provides a survey of Cnut (Canute) which illuminates the nature of monarchy and government in the 11th century. It summarizes knowledge on the Danish and English monarchy during Cnut's time and offers new interpretations on his reign, covers his activities and his relations with the English church. The author has concentrated largely on the English aspects of Cnut's reign, while trying in the introduction to demonstrate the extent of earlier Anglo-Scandinavian contacts. The book is aimed at undergraduate and A level students and anyone teaching a post-graduate level. It is suitable for courses in Anglo-Saxon history, early medieval history and A level history.
