Through a series of major reviews by influential scientists from Britain and elsewhere, this 1992 book details the contribution which nutrition research has made and continues to make to the health of man and animals. The volume was prepared for the Golden Jubilee of the Nutrition Society and celebrates 50 years of nutrition research. The reader will find chapters on energy and the major nutrients including vitamins and trace minerals and their influence on reproduction, lactation, growth and development. Research on malnutrition in the developing world and in Germany in the 1940s together with the successful feeding of the British people during the Second World War are discussed. The volume also surveys the impact of diet on human health today and the opportunities for further reducing the risk of major chronic disease. The volume provides a useful overview of the development nutrition reseach.
