Description
Von Gerkan, Marg & Partners is one of the most productive of German architectural practices and has built in most major German cities. Their work range from housing and hotels to museums, theatres and concert halls; from public buildings to office buildings and commerical centres, including hospitals, teaching and research establishments, and many industrial buildings. They established their reputation as airport designers some years ago with their scheme to rebuild Berlin-Tegel; recently, they have increased their reputation with a series of projects which expand the language of uncompromisingly modern design, but at the same time their historicism is both lively and progressive. Their technology is always leading edge, but they also use simple materials - brick, timber and roof tiles - to great effect and are able to move rapidly from large-scale, bold gestures to intricate detailing. This highly illustrated monograph gives full flavour of their work to date.
