Description
The safe, cost effective and publicly acceptable management of irradiated nuclear fuel and associated wastes is a vital challenge for engineers in the nuclear industry worldwide. The benefits of recycling to save costs and conserve the Earth's natural resources are well-documented. An international conference on "The Management of Irradiated Nuclear Fuel" organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and held in Manchester in November 1992, covered all current topics of interest for those in the nuclear industry. Papers presented included: new concepts for reprocessing technology, the execution of a project at Rokkasho-Mura in Japan, a status report on the Sellafield THORP project and considerations of different fuel management options. This volume is a collection of papers given at the Conference.
