内容説明

'Like its three predecessors, Unconformities in Shakespeare's Later Comedies shows a familiarity with all the details of Shakespeare's works that can only be the result of a lifelong devotion to the writer. As a reader one is deeply impressed by Smidt's expertise and grateful for the fact that he sends us back to our own copies of Shakespeare every time.' - J.M. Blom, English Studies This is the fourth and last volume in a series which offers a textual analysis of Shakespeare's plays grouped by genre and, in the case of the comedies, by period. The term 'unconformities', which occurs in all the titles, has been found useful to designate the breaches of continuity or consistency which occur in the texts for whatever reason. In many cases they direct us to thought processes which shaped and informed the plays as we have them, and help to bring certain prevalent tendencies of Shakespeare's work into clearer view.
