Description
The partitioning of carbon between different chemical forms and its transport around the plant are processes central to plant productivity and crop yield. In addition, the movement of such material between organisms during parasitism and symbiosis represents a significant division of material away from primary production. In recent years, major advances have been made in our understanding of how some of these processes are regulated at the cell, organ and plant level, but this knowledge is far from complete. This book brings together specialists from a number of different fields who review recent progress and highlight those areas with potential for future study. Subjects covered include cellular regulation of sucrose and starch metabilism; the pathways and control of long distance transport; the integration of source and sink metabolism during development; and the control of partitioning in symbiotic and parasitic associations. By taking a very broad approach, the book offers an opportunity to consider the key processes of carbon partitioning from a number of contrasting yet complementary viewpoints.
It is intended for plant researchers in plant biochemistry and plant physiology and postgraduate and final year undergraduate students in plant science.
