Description

A study of the rise in female-headed and female-supported households, this book reveals the disproportionate representation of women and children among the world's poor to structures of inequality in their particular national contexts and examines the strategies employed by women to "make a way out of no way". Drawing on examples from around the world, the contributors focus on the factors - restructuring of the labour markets or death and migration as a result of war or famine - that contribute to the problem.
