Many new chemicals have been introduced for the benefit of daily life, medicine, food production and industry. Unfortunately, many of these "xenobiotics" are ceating environmental problems all over the world. Although it is necessary to control them, our knowledge of xenobiotics control has hardly gone beyond identifying the importance of the problem. To tackle this form of pollution effectively, an interdisciplinary approach is needed. This volume consists of 64 selected papers (including some of the posters) from a symposium which was used as a forum for the exchange of ideas among researchers from many disciplines. The 11 chapters cover chlorinated organics, pesticides, heavy metals and health risks, recent detection and monitoring methods, organic micropollutant detection, mutagens in environmental and drinking water, det oxification of micropollutants, waste treatment and bioremediation, risk and impact assessment and regulatory approaches for control of micropollutants.
