Description
This text re-examines the topics of population change, inflation, agriculture, industry, overseas trade, elite society, poverty and elite culture, in the light of recent interpretations and research. Newer topics, such as internal trade, London and urbanization, the lower orders and popular culture are also incorporated to broaden the perspective. The book includes a basic text, a selection of source material, maps, chronological tables and summary flow-chart diagrams. The Elizabethan period is re-assessed through reference to current historical debate, and developments are illustrated through contemporary views and pictures and the findings of original research.
