Young Adult Services addresses the challenges faced by small libraries in providing services to young adults, those patrons between 12 and 18 years of age, in a rapidly changing world. Farmer presents a general discussion of young adult services in small libraries; a discussion which begins by recognizing that while small libraries may not be able to afford the degree of services offered to young people in larger libraries, it is important to offer some services. The brief essay addresses how basic information needs of young adults can be met by small libraries. It presents types of services that may feasibly be taken on by small library librarians, those who frequently take on most of the functions in the library, often with the assistance of paraprofessionals only.
