Description
This is a compilation of the activities and experience of different researchers working in brain banking - the collection, adequate preservation and distribution of human specimen nervous tissue for research in the field of neuroscience. Some of the results obtained using this material are described. The most important aspect of the book is to introduce the concept of a brain bank and the possibilities it offers. Different aspects concerning the historical antecedents, organization and management, including technical considerations related to dissection, cryopreservation and preparation of nervous tissue for different goals, are thoroughly discussed. The editors emphasize the need for a consensus to standardize clinical protocols, technical tissue management and multidisciplinary research lines directed at the study of several neurological and psychiatric disorders.
