Description and Table of Contents

Description

A symposium to review the genetics of selected common disorders, particularly atherosclerotic diseases and psychiatric disorders, was held in Oslo, May 1989. The proceedings of this symposium presented in this volume review already available data on DNA variation at candidate loci for several common diseases, genetic architecture, the variability of gene concept, gene-environment interaction, gene-gene interaction, the potential importance of genomic imprinting in the aetiology of common disorders and RNA editing. Existing knowledge of single genes contributing to predisposition to atherosclerosis is also discussed, as are the problems of identifying by linkage analysis or other approaches to single genes influencing the risk of psychiatric disorders.
