内容説明

This volume consists of four extensive papers on the nutritional aspects of osteoporosis and their importance. It brings together the latest information not only on the effects of calcium, magnesium and phosphate metabolism, parathyroid hormone and vitamin D, but also the effects of alcohol and fluoride. The first paper represents the most up-to-date review available of the role of calcium in osteoporosis. Thorough coverage of the various direct and indirect methods used to monitor calcium intake is provided by the second paper. A major cause of osteoporosis and fractures in young adult males is alcohol abuse, the evidence for which is reviewed in the following paper. The final paper is a review of fluoride metabolism in the human body, its use for treating osteoporosis, and the clinical aspects of fluoride treatment.
