Description and Table of Contents

Description

Although the association between eye disease and hyperthyroidism has been recognized for almost 200 years, the etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of endocrine ophthalmopathy remain an enigma to many physicians who must evaluate and treat patients with this condition. Close interdisciplinary co-operation in recent years has yielded much valuable information, which this volume brings together. It stresses the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of thyroid eye disease and offers ophthalmologists, endocrinologists, internists, radiologists and neurosurgeons a thorough overview of the associated eye changes. An exclusive feature of the book is its coverage of the new molecular aspects of this autoimmune endocrine disorder. In addition, recently developed immunological, histochemical and molecular biological methods are presented. Clinicians will particularly appreciate the chapters outlining a rational approach to the medical, radiological and surgical management of endocrine ophthalmopathy.
