Description and Table of Contents
Description
In the lead-up to the Government White Paper on Science and Technology, this report has two objectives: to provide an objective assessment of the facts of international comparisons; and to identify what lessons may be derived from objective assessment. OECD data are used since they are the only respectable source for international comparisons of research and development spending. This report concludes that the UK is a fairly average R & D spender in relation to the Group of Seven economies; and that the UK is an above average spender in relation to the countries of the OECD.
Table of Contents
- Government intramural expenditure on research and development
- higher education research and development expenditure
- business enterprise research and development
- civil gross expenditure on research and development
- government funded civil research and development. Appendices: the gross domestic product denominator
