Contemporary design of the built, external environment is increasingly a focus for commercial interest and public concern. The need for effective urban generation and the call for a more holistic approach to environmental planning, place new demands on the landscape practitioner. This book draws together a selection of some 60 of the world's most stimulating original and unusual modern landscaped schemes. Commercial, public, private, urban, agricultural, industrial and community projects are all considered, from locations worldwide. The book is organized thematically and includes a wide range pf projects taken from countries as diverse as the UK, Latin America, Japan, Australia and North America. Current projects such as the Euro-Disney scheme near Paris and the Summer 1992 Olympics are also featured. A wide range of plans and drawings reveal the creative process of successful landscaping, while colour photographs of finished schemes display a wealth of different climatic and planting conditions. Each project is accompanied by a critical commentary providing details of locations, clients and unusual features, and a biography is given for each designer.
