Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book provides a concise guide to the management of common cardiac emergencies including, in particular, the management of full cardiorespiratory arrest. As well as dealing with cardiac arrest associated with ischaemic heart disease, details are also given of the management of cardiac arrest from less common causes including asthma, pulmonary embolism, anaphylaxis and drug overdose. A chapter on paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation is included. Resuscitation in hospital is a team task and a description of how the team should be organized is given, together with the suggested allocation of roles to team members. Considerable attention is given to the practical management of acute myocardial infarction. The early recognition of this condition has become even more important with the advent of thromolysis and, as well as describing early management, the use of various thrombolytic agents is discussed. This book should be of use to doctors and nurses working in the front line, particularly in Accident and Emergency of general medicine, and to paramedics. It should also be useful to those who may occasionally be required to attempt resuscitation.
