Description
Thomas Twining belonged to a prominent family of London tea-merchants, but after a short period in the family business decided he was more suited to the life of a scholar and clergyman. He kept in touch with the musical and intellectual life of the capital. The letters published here convey a vivid picture of life in late-century England seen through the eyes of a kindly, scholarly, and broad-minded man.
