内容説明
Featuring contributions from outstanding researchers in the field, this publication focuses on the rather new concept of neuroprotection. Neuroprotection has its roots in earlier research on MPTP-induced parkinsonism which showed that the substantia nigra suffers selective damage. Three main topics in this innovative field have been dealt with: monoamine oxidase and its inhibitors; free radicals and their scavengers; and the role of iron in neurodegeneration. The aim is to provide a better understanding of the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and to ultimately find ways in which to prevent or slow the degeneration of the substantia nigra.
