Description
An explanation of the emergence of the current refugee situation in Europe, both east and west, emphasizing the fact that the crisis in refugee protection is part of a long-term historical process, and that Europe has produced and received refugees for centuries. Refugees are created by natural disasters, civil unrest, war and, above all, sustained and gross violations of human rights. Lasting solutions can only be found by tackling the root causes of these problems, by working for ecologically and economically sustainable development, allied to the observance of human rights, including minority rights.
