Industrial relations in Britain have long been a source of controversy and debate. In recent years they have remained of central importance in management practice and national politics. An understanding and awareness of the theoretical perspectives underlying management and government policies is as important as ever. This revised, updated second edition of "British Industrial Relations" aims to present the central issues in industrial relations in Britain and brings to life the main participants. The authors discuss management strategies, structures and styles; they examine employees as individuals and in groups; and they investigate the role of unions and professional asssociations. The role of the state and governmental agencies is also examined. The focus is on processes of decision making and bargaining at work, and on attempts by management and governments over the years to reform the British system of industrial relations. There is a strong international dimension with comparisons made with the USA, Japan and European countries. They also examine the likely impact of EC developments.
