Description and Table of Contents

Description

This two-volume work presents the fundamentals of modelling, giving a rational methodology for the creation of causal mathematical models for various levels of complex mechanical phenomena. The application of the methodology will provide a complete process for the development of a satisfactory model of the phenomenon. The book recapitulates and integrates knowledge from several disciplines of mechanics, such as solid mechanics and fluid mechanics, organizing it around the fundamental subject of modelling. Consequently the book may serve as a tutorial text for study or teaching, and as a working manual for practising engineers, research workers and teachers in applied mathematics and mechanics. Numerous examples illustrate the text, many taken from the field of aircraft engineering, but others are directly relevant to civil and mechanical engineering.

Table of Contents

  • Basic notion of the modelling
  • balance laws as the basis of causal model creation
  • modelling by means of variational principles
  • modelling by means of graph theory.
