Description
A new edition of the standard text and reference relied on by zoo and wildlife veterinarians and vets caring for exotic animals. There is no other single-source reference that provides guidelines for medical care and management of so broad a variety of captive and free-ranging species from rabbits to elephants to marine mammals. This new edition complements, expands upon, and updates coverage in prior editions. Material on free-ranging wild animals has been significantly increased. 100 international authorities have contributed to this edition. The format of the work has been altered to parallel current veterinary therapy texts, facilitating easy accesss to today's best management methods. A section on animal and human welfare addresses topics including - occupational health programs in wildlife facilities, humane care of captive wild animals, and the immobilization and study of free-ranging wildlife. Totally new material appears on game farming and ranching, and care of wild and captive elephants focuses on problems unique to the species.
