Description
Designed for the more than a half-million Americans who work for Japanese companies throughout the United States, as well as their Japanese manangers, this guide examines the differences in the two cultures and offers practical suggestions on how to get along, and even move up in Japanese businesses. The authors, both experienced consultants with Japanese firms, propose that the most effective way to bring these cultures together is to create what they call a "third culture". By combining the positive features of both - such as the Japanese's organizational skills, manufacturing methods and unrelenting focus on the consumer, and the American's creativity, innovation and educated, ambitious work force - the result would be a new and revolutionary type of industrial organization that could be profitable and satisfying to all concerned. William Byham is the co-author of "Zapp! The Lightning of Empowerment".
