Providing a broad overview of a recently recognized consequence of ischemic heart disease - stunned myocardium - this reference book presents the definition, characteristics, and mechanisms of the phenomenon in various experimental models of ischemia/reperfusion and describes the clinical situations in which stunned myocardium is present.;Describing the evidence that has elucidated the properties of this condition, this book delineates current theories on the mechanisms of stunned myocardium, including the role of oxygen radicals and altered calcium homeostasis.
