The Royal Commission on Criminal Justice sought information on criminal justice systems in a number of other jurisdictions in order to see whether there were lessons to be learned from them which might be applied to the criminal justice systems in England and Wales. In particular, it examined the Scottish system in some depth, and made two visits to Scotland. Other systems were investigated by setting out specific questions in a questionnaire.
