内容説明

IEEE Standard 1003.1 defines a standard operating system interface and environment based on the UNIX operating system. The document focuses primarily on the C Language interface at the operating system to support application portability at the source level. Application developers, system implementors and applications software implementors will be able to use this as a basis against which various operating system implementations can be measured for conformance. The standard describes the external characteristics and facilities of the operating system which are of importance to persons developing applications for this environment. Special emphasis is placed on those functions and facilities that are needed in a wide variety of commercial applications. Defined exclusively at the source code level, three major components of this standard are: definitions for terminology and objects referred to in the document; systems interface and subroutines (C Language binding); andm interface issues, including: portability, media formats and error handling and recovery. Functions of the interface are dealt with on an individual basis. For each function the C Language binding and a specification of the operation performed are provided. Examples are provided to illustrate interfaces, and in most cases return values and possible error conditions are specified.
