Six articles review the application of nuclear magnetic resonance, electron microscopy, X-ray fiber diffraction and conformational analysis to certain plant, animal, and microbial polysaccharides and carbohydrate polymers. The contributions on the shapes, geometries, and interactions of bacterial polysaccharides and blood-group related oligosaccharides stress the biological and medical functions of these compounds.
