内容説明
The European Community is undergoing a period of uncertainty as the Member States strive for agreement on a variety of political, economic and financial issues. This authoritative analysis gives the essential background to an understanding of the operation of the EC and of the problems facing it. Written by two experts in the field, the book surveys the gradual development of the EC, and includes a full examination of the impact of the Treaty agreed at Maastricht in December 1991, indicating throughout how and why the amendments envisaged by the Treaty will affect the law. The legislative and judicial contributions to the establishment of the Community legal order and to the process of market integration are surveyed in depth. The book provides a thorough analysis of the Community's le 'legislative processes, the jurisdiction of the Court and the principles of direct effect and supremacy. It examines the substantive legal rules governing the free movement of goods, persons and services and subjects Community competition policy to close analysis. Economic and monetary union is also discussed and there is a separate chapter devoted to social policy.
Although this book deals primarily with the legal perspective, it also includes a detailed examination of the Community's institutions, such as the Commission, Council and Parliament. It will therefore be of immense value not only to practising lawyers who need to understand the impact of EC law, but also to anyone who is studying or is interested in politics, European studies, economics or modern history.
