内容説明
This collection of essays has now been expanded and updated with several new pieces. Three of the essays are on early Sino-Southeast Asia relations and provide perspectives on the Chinese and the Southeast Asian region on the eve of Western penetration. Another group of essays analyzes several key eras of Malay, Malayan and Malaysian history. A third group of articles discusses the Chinese in Malaya just before nation-building began and paints contrasting pictures of how the Chinese had to overcome their emotional and political ties with China. Finally, there are essays which focus on the Chinese in Australia and on Australia's past, present and future relations with Asia. "Professor Wang Gungwu is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong.".
