内容説明
The use of experimental methods in economics has grown rapidly during the last decade. The essays included in this volume, some of them pioneering contributions in their own right, are broadly representative of much of the substantial literature that now exists. The volume should therefore provide a convenient source for anyone who wishes to learn about the field; the kinds of topics that have been addressed using the experimental approach; and the methods and theoretical tools that have dominated so far. Moreover, it should prove a useful supplement for students of decision theory and even for students of Schumpeterian competition.

Part 1 Individual decision making: Choices involving uncertain probabilities - tests of generalized utility models (P.J.H. Shoemaker). The effect on the preference-reversal phenomenon of using choice indifferences (R. Bostic, R.J. Herrnstein, R.D. Luce). Testing Bayes Rule and the representativeness heuristic - some experimental evidence (D.M. Grether). Part 2 Bargaining and oligopoly: An experimental analysis of ultimatum bargaining (W. Gueth, R. Schmittberger, B. Schwarze). End behaviour in sequences of finite prisoner's dilemma supergames - a learning theory approach (R. Selten, R. Stoecker). Some experimental testing of the Cournot-Nash Hypothesis in small group rivalry situations (C.C. Morrison, H. Kamarei). Part 3 Double auction markets. The opportunity for conspiracy in restraint of trade - an experimental study (R.M. Isaac, C.R. Plott). The multiple unit double auction (C.R. Plott, P. Gray). Part 4 Institutions and exchange: Information and conspiracy in sealed bid auctions (R.M. Isaac, J.M. Walker). Market structure and buyer behaviour - price adjustment in a multi-object progressive oral auction (P. Burns). Market behaviour in bid, offer, and double auctions - a re-examination (J.M. Walker, A.W. Williams). Auction design for composite goods - the natural gas industry (K.A. McCabe, S.J. Rassenti, V.L. Smith). Part 5 Organization and behaviour. Committee decisions under alternative procedural rules - an experimental study applying a new non-monetary method of preference inducement (R.C. Kormendi, C.R. Plott). Fiat money as a store of value in an experimental market (K.A. McCabe). Schumpeterian competition in experimental markets (R.M. Issac, S.S. Reynolds).
