These case studies show how the people of many African countries have had to make huge sacrifices because of the implementation of economic recovery programmes, lower wages and the drastic reduction in the allocation of resourcesto critical social sectors such as health and education. They emphasize that the way SAPs were introduced could exacerbate inequality and poverty.
