Rather than attempting to be an encyclopaedia on understanding and treating diseases of the cervical spine, the editors have chosen to concentrate on surgical therapy, indications for treatment, and the favoured techniques of specific surgeons. Chapters cover the upper and lower cervical spine, anterior spinal fixation, swan neck deformity, ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, and vertebral artery decompression. The editors have avoided the "either/or" approach to surgery of the cervical spine by clearly indicating when the anterior approach is more appropriate. The latest techniques and instrumentation are described in detail. A chapter on the complications of anterior cervical spine surgery is included.
