This study explores the principles and practice of modelling the human role in the transformation of the biosphere on global and regional scales. The need to understand the transformation that the human species is causing to the basic appearance and nature of the biosphere is urgent. A key to this understanding is the application of mathematical models to biosphere systems and their interactions with people. Richard John Huggett conveys the methods used to build and apply such mathematical models in the context of the human impact on climate, water cycles, biogeochemical cycles and life cycles.
