内容説明
Agriculture is changing rapidly all over the world. The key issues of intensification, diversification, optimization of scarce resources, integrated pest management, sustainability and climate change affect farmers, scientists, extensionists and policy makers alike in both industrialized and developing countries. Solutions to these inter-related issues require a truly integrated approach based on holistic precepts and on methodology that enables an assessment of alternative development strategies. Such may be found in systems thinking and systems simulation, both of which have become indispensable tools for integration and extrapolation. To review progress in applying systems approaches to agricultural development, an international symposium was held in December 1991 that brought together some 150 scientists and senior research leaders from all over the world. The symposium, Systems Approaches for Agricultural Development. reviewed the status of systems research and modelling in agriculture, with special reference to their efficacy and efficiency for achieving research goals and their application to solving developing country problems.
