Description

Recent political developments in Europe have led to a renewed interest in sharing information among member states about the practice of clinical and health psychology, about training and service issues, and about research findings. Frequency data from different countries can highlight the relative importance of different symptoms, behaviours and conditions, and our understanding of a phenomenon is enhanced by the knowledge either that it is widespread or specific to particular communities. It is also illuminating to consider how explanations of the same phenomena vary across countries, and how completely different issues may be selected as being worthy of clinical and research effort. The study of differences in health policy and service provision can provide a wealth of ideas for solving our own particular problems, enabling us to draw on a much wider range of innovative practice. There is also much to be gained from broadening our knowledge of the different training and professional organization of European clinical and health psychologists. The contributions in this book have been chosen to illustrate the advantages of taking a pan-European perspective.
