内容説明

The proper assessment of ecotoxicological risks is only possible through a study of the bioaccumulation of chemicals. This book considers the most important questions that arise during such a study and gives approaches to their solutions. "Validation" - do the present guidelines yield reliable results and are they sufficient? How can modelling of bioconcentration be performed? Can the bioaccumulation potential of a chemical be predicted by quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs)? "Extrapolation" - can test results be extrapolated between organism groups? Can laboratory results be extrapolated to environmental conditions and vice-versa? Is a distinction between bioconcentration and biomagnification necessary? "Evaluation" - does bioaccumulation reflect toxicity? How can data on bioaccumulation be evaluated differentially? What are the current approaches to assess bioaccumulation; are they capable of further development? International experts from industry, government and research give opinions and statements on these complex questions. The nature of the book will particularly benefit scientists in governmental registration offices for chemicals, chemists in industry and ecologists.
