内容説明

Local radio and television have become common elements in many European countries during the last decade, and have helped to change the overall media landscape. This book provides an overview of the development, current status and anticipated trends of small-scale electronic media in Europe. Country-orientated chapters analyze the specific situations for eleven European countries. These chapters are supported by empirically-based data where available. Two introductory chapters of the volume trace the historical emergence of community radio and television, and the central theoretical issues embedded in that development. Four chapters in the third section of the book consider themes over-reaching national boundaries: women and local radio, experimentation with minority television, legal and policy questions and aspects of cultural identity. Finally, in an over-view chapter, anticipated trends in the further development of community media are presented: increased internationalization of broadcastikng, introduction of advertizing on local radio and television, concern for promotion of access and participation in these media and contribution to the public sphere. The similarities and distinguishing features of this European media development as compared to its North American counterpart makes this volume particularly useful for both European and American communication students.
