内容説明

The 1980s witnessed an unprecedented rise in inequality and poverty in the US, despite an economic expansion that began in 1983. The papers collected in this volume explore differing manifestations including poverty rates that remained unexpectedly high over the period, the shrinkage of the middle class, a growing intergenerational wealth gap, a widening of the earnings gap between the college educated and the high school graduate and an increasing dispersion of the distribution of family income, despite the increased labour force participation of women. Papadimitriou is also the editor of "Profits, Deficits and Instability", "Aspects of Distribution of Income and Wealth" and with Steven Fazzari "Financial Conditions and Macroeconomic Performance, Essays in Honor of Hyman P. Minsky".
