Technology plays a key role in the informal sectors of developing countries, yet little is known about the acquisition of technical knowhow or the adaptation of technology. This volume presents the findings of field surveys carried out on micro-enterprises, particularly in metal-manufacturing, from seven countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. It discusses the constraints to enhancing technological capability, and policies and measures to overcome them.
