内容説明
This is the first of two volumes analyzing the past, present and future roles of intellectuals in the 20th century from a pan-Caribbean perspective. Changes in both technology and international relations have called into question the traditional function of intellectuals. The rise of a technical intelligentsia in the post-industrial world, controlling new technologies of communication pose challenges and have thrown up a range of problems. This book analyzes the issues that have been of concern to Caribbean intellectuals reflected in creole and plural society as well as on theories of development. Among specific thinkers discussed are Eric Williams, Walter Rodney and C.L.R. James. The role of the diaspora and of science is also discussed and questions for the future are posed. Alistair Hennessy is the author of "The Federal Republic in Spain, 1868-73", "The Frontier in Latin American History" and "The Land that England Lost: Argentina and Britain, a Special Relationship".
