How will the Children Act 1989 affect independent boarding schools? This volume highlights the responsibility of the proprietors and managers of these schools to safeguard and promote the welfare of the children they accommodate. It emphasizes the duty of Social Service Departments to inspect schools in order to ensure that the health, happiness, physical and intellectual development of each child is being properly promoted, and that there is no evidence of harm or neglect.
