Description
This publication addresses important issues regarding prostatic carcinoma. Future prospects for a better diagnosis are discussed, a debate on how to develop a screening programme is presented, and laparoscopic lymphadenectomy, a new technique for staging, is described. With respect to disease management, the current surgical approaches for radical protatectomy and the role of radiotherapy are reviewed. Furthermore, this issue discusses new therapeutic options currently under investigation, such as neoadjuvant treatment, and explores the advantages of combined androgen blockage. Two contributions dealing with patients' quality of life complete this comprehensive collection of work on prostate cancer.
