内容説明

Using a quantitative approach, this book looks at the dissolution of soluble materials in engineering structures. Simple concepts are taken from physical science, providing quantitative design methods for safe and enduring structures encompassing soluble minerals, concrete and other man-made materials of construction. Chapters deal with the meaning and methods of determining solution potentials and dissolution rate constants. New parametric values are given together with laboratory methods for their determination, and the effects of temperature, flow velocity, salinity and particle shape are included in the parameters. The particular characteristics of the anhydritegypsum system and its effects on dissolution are discussed in detail. Mathematical models and analyses of dissolution phenomena within a range of ground conditions in natural and engineering environments are explained and illustrated with case histories from the author's considerable experience in engineering consultancy. The book includes site investigation procedures for the evaluation and subsequent design of structures encompassing soluble materials. The approach is multi-disciplinary, calling upon aspects of chemistry, physics and mathematical modelling.
